Acclaimed soprano Carolyn Sinclair has appeared as guest soloist with many choirs, chamber ensembles and orchestras and is the resident vocal soloist with the critically-acclaimed period instrument ensemble, the Baroque Players of Hamilton. Ms. Sinclair's performances have taken her throughout Canada, the United States, England, Europe and Bermuda. Ms. Sinclair's repertoire ranges from early 17th-century Italian song and opera to Orff's Carmina Burana and contemporary classical music. Ms. Sinclair has also enjoyed success on the opera stage in many diverse roles such as Poppea (in England) to the Merry Widow (in Canada). She recently created the title role of Cassandra in the world premiere of that opera by Toronto composer Ian McAndrew. Her performances have been lauded by both critics and audiences the world over. She has performed at the Boston and Bloomington Early Music Festivals in the U.S., at the Elora, Grand River Baroque, Saugeen Bach and the Colours of Music Festivals in Canada, at the Dartington Festival in England and at the International Bach Festival in France.
Ms. Sinclair may be heard on the Hungaroton Classics label (HCD 31602) in "Ah, How Sweet it is to Love: Songs for the Theatre by Purcell, Clarke and Eccles" and on the ATMA label (ACD 22174) in "A Baroque Christmas." Soon to be released is a CD of Handel's "Nine German Arias."
She can be seen on two TV specials, "A Baroque Christmas", and "A Baroque Easter", seasonal favourites on Vision and Bravo-TV.
Carolyn Sinclair is also co-star and host of the 13-part television series "Come into the Parlour" (a programme on 19th century music with a different theme and guest artist each week. Guests have included Canadian opera stars Russell Braun, Eric Shaw, John Tessier, Kim Barber, among others) currently airing on Vision and Bravo-TV.
Her singing has been heard often on CBC Radio 2 (Canada) and on NPR (U.S.). Ms. Sinclair has been the recipient of a Manitoba Arts Council Award, a grant from the Canada Council for the Arts, as well as prizes from several Canadian competitions and has had works commissioned and especially composed for her.
Carolyn Sinclair currently resides in Vancouver, British Columbia.
